Kick boredom to the curb with our out-of-the-box weekday adventures!
Are you a home learner with a thirst for adventure? Or are you just someone who sometimes needs a break from five days of boredom in a brick-and-mortar school? No matter who you are, we’ve got you covered as long as you’re one of our fellow REBELS AGAINST THE BORING!
Super fun, easy, and close to home
Our REBELS AGAINST THE BORING program is meant to make spontaneous weekday adventures as effortless as possible for home learners and public school kids. We offer a flexible schedule and easy pick-up and drop-off locations that mean any Vancouver kid can spice up their school week by getting outside and having an adventure at the drop of a hat!
Teaching the skills all REBELS need to fight the BORING
Embrace your Creativity
To keep boredom away, we have to get creative! We believe all kids are creative and want to give them a place to show that, whether it’s doing chalk graffiti or shooting a short film.
Example Day: The Beats of Vancouver
Explore the city collecting fun and unusual ‘sounds of Vancouver’ using a high-tech field recorder, then do a workshop with a local DJ to how to incorporate those sounds into into your own unique Vancouver Beat.
Get your body moving
No adventure ever happened on the couch. Every day we get outside and get physical, learning physical literacy and risk assessment while having a whole lotta fun! Favourite activities including paddleboarding, climbing, biking and, of course, parkour.
Example Day: Guerilla Parkour Filmmaking
What else could you do that’s fine gorilla style parkour filmmaking project where we travel around by skytrain produce five films in a week all within class time
Stay Curious
Curiosity is a rebel’s greatest strength, and we do our best to support kids in following their creativity no matter what wacky place it takes them to. While we always have a daily plan established well in advance, our instructors keep things flexible to that spontaneous adventures are always hiding around the corner.
Example Day: Survival Skills and Search for the Legendary Bog Man
We believe it’s easy to stay curious when you can trust your skills. Head into Stanley Park to learn how to build fires without modern tools, tie knots, and build forts before venturing into the deeper woods in search of the legendary Bog Man.
Help Make the World a Better Place
A true rebel is always trying to make the world, and their communities, better than they found them. Our adventures always include getting practice with helping others, whether in the local community or our imaginations.
Example Day: Frog Fight and Heroism
Partner with local ecological restoration crew to help remove the invasive American Bullfrog species while learning about frogs and amphibians. Then, bust out your sword and spellbooks to save the day during our iconic outdoor Dungeons and Dragons campaign.
Meet our Staff: Rebels of all ages
Our staff aren't just seasonal staff. They do 100–500 days of urban programming a year with kids in Vancouver and know the city like the back of their hands. They are lead staff from Vancouver Outdoor School’s Fieldschool.
