The last days of winter in the Yukon have always carried a magical, almost mythical meaning for people all over the world. While winters can be viewed as harsh in the Land of the Midnight Sun, they are also a time of great beauty and excitement for Yukoners. We designed Northern Lights Youth Leadership Adventure to answer teens’ ‘inner call of the wild’ by introducing them to the Yukon’s awesome winter activities while emphasizing leadership and life-skills training.

Feel the magic of the North…
The Yukon is home to more than just snow and moose! Here are just a few exciting experiences we’ll have during our Yukon winter adventure:
Dive into winter sports at the Canada Games Centre, Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club (there is free baking at the ski lodge on Sundays) and Mt. Sima Ski Hill, all beloved local fixtures in northern life.
Dogsled through a winter wonderland as you chase the Northern Lights… over the frozen rivers and through the black spruce forests. You’ll bond with your dog team and move through the landscape in an entirely new way.
Experience Northern arts and culture by touring local art galleries and participating in a glass-blowing workshop at Lumel Studios, where you will get the chance to personally craft your own glass sculpture and bring it home.
Venture into Kluane National Park, one of Canada’s wildest, most remote, and most stunning parks filled with sweeping tundra landscapes. Did you know that Kluane has all of Canada’s highest mountains?
See Yukon wildlife in winter mode, including bison, arctic foxes, moose, and muskoxen (the crocodile of the tundra, find out why) more at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve
Learn about the fascinating history of the Yukon at the MacBride Museum and peer into the eyes of the only albino moose to ever be captured and put in a museum
Creating a glass Aurora at Lumel Studios
Barnsy, Camp Director
“I’ll never forget my first time on a dogsled. It was -43 celsius and we were headed onto a frozen river. Before we left, I was definitely worried. But once I got the parka on and jumped in the sled, the sun came out and I felt so comfortable I actually fell asleep - I felt like I was on the beach in Mexico. That’s when I learned that in a semi-arid climate like the Yukon, it’s really easy to manage the cold if you have the right gear.”
